In liaison interpreting, the sections of speech are shorter than in classic consecutive interpreting. In a conversational situation, the content is transmitted into another language with the related delay. As the name suggests, this type of interpreting is used in negotiations and discussions. It is also suitable for small-scale business meetings and interview situations with few participants. Interpretation at marriage ceremonies or legal hearings e.g. is referred to as community interpreting

With escort interpreting, the interpreter accompanies foreign guests in everyday conversational situations during their stay.

Relay interpreting is interpreting between two languages via a third. In this case the interpretation is provided from one comparatively rarely used language into a language more common at the conference. Other interpreters then transfer this interpretation into the other languages used at the conference.

For more information regarding the different kinds of interpreting I recommend the SCIC website on conference interpreting.
